Filtration of industrial paint and coatings

The environmental evolution of the last few years and the new technologies in industrial paints have transformed the elements of the filtration process.

Solvent-based paints and coatings are gradually being replaced by water-based paints. Water-based paints are less toxic for the environment but less fluid and more difficult to filter compared to solvent-based paints.

There are many different filtration solutions for paints, but they are not always effective, either technically or environmentally. The cost per kg of technical paints is driving the market players towards waste-free industrial filtration solutions. The new application techniques for technical paints require increasingly low filtration fineness. To meet these technical and environmental demands, K2TEC offers a full range of filters, each with its advantages.

Do you have a filtration inquiry ?

The stainless steel bag filter housing is the simplest and most economical solution for filtering industrial paints. K2TEC’s range of filter bags comes in multiple filtration ratings from 0.5 microns to 2000 microns, in materials such as polypropylene, nylon, polyester, PTFE (Teflon), PVDF, and more.

KBF stainless steel bag filter housings are made of 304 or 316 stainless steel and can be adapted to the type, size, diameter and orientation of the connection on request. The surface of the filter housings can be treated at different levels, including electro-polishing to facilitate cleaning operations.

This bag filter housing can be integrated in fixed installations but also as a stand-alone filtration solution on a filter skid.

The automatic self-cleaning filter PLM is the environmentally friendly, economical and high-tech alternative to the KBF bag filter housing. It starts where others stop when it comes to viscosity.

This mechanically cleaned filter can filter paints, gels or building coatings from 1 cps up to 200,000 cps. The configuration of the scraper system provides an easy and effective filtration of water-based and solvent-based paints, building coatings and effect or metallic paints. The advantages of this automatic and self-cleaning filter are numerous:

  • Solid and durable with few moving parts,
  • Consumable-free
  • Easily handles high viscosity products,
  • Closed and can filter hazardous products
  • Different levels of automation are possible
  • Clean in place cleaning, and more.

To increase the versatility of this filter, K2TEC can also offer a mobile and automatic filtration solution for the liquid industrial filtration of paint and coatings. Thanks to a mobile and autonomous filter skid which can combine an automatic self-cleaning filter, its control cabinet, and even a pump.

For the filtration of paint during the production steps (usually before packaging), filter bags are used in KBF bag filter housings. Filter bags are an interesting alternative to filter cartridges.

K2TEC offers a wide range of filter bags with multiple filtration ratings, from 0.5 microns to 2000 microns, in different materials compatible with industrial paints and also cleaning liquids such as water and solvents.

For paint filtration operations, K2TEC has standard filter bags with galvanized steel or plastic rings, which are sewn or welded, made of regenerable monofilament filter cloth from 1 micron to 2000 microns or felt from 0.5 microns to 200 microns.

For simple operations, K2TEC also offers filter bags with strings, which can be easily hung on pipes.

To meet your special requirements, K2TEC can design and manufacture custom filter bags that can be adapted to all filter systems.

Filter cloths and precision filter fabrics made of synthetic materials such as nylon, polyester or polypropylene are regularly used on vibrating sieves. The filter cloth can be supplied in rolls (to be cut by the user at the time of installation) or pre-cut on request.

Filter cloths and filter meshes are also used in an isolated way for filtration applications at the outlet of paint tanks or by gravity for small containers directly over the cans.

Most manufacturing plants of industrial paints use standard consumables. However, custom filter elements may be required for specific technical needs or as part of the retrofitting of filtration equipment.

K2TEC can: reproduce existing special filters, manufacture custom filter elements according to existing designs or work on specific developments.
